Gastrointestinal Fluid Mechanics Gastrointestinal Fluid Mechanics
Computational fluid dynamics and electro physiology
We are developing gastrointestinal fluid mechanics by collaborating with the University of Auckland (New Zealand). Our computational fluid dynamics modeling is coupled with their electrophysiology analysis (Berry et al, Am J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol, 2016).
How do the bolus viscosity and patient posture affect pharyngeal residue?
When pharyngeal adaptation is impaired, an increase in the bolus viscosity increases pharyngeal residual volume, particularly in the case of forward-leaning postures (Ohta et al, Am J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol, 2019).
What happens if gastric motor functions are not coordinated?
Impaired coordination between antral contraction and pyloric closure can result in delayed emptying, rapid emptying and bile refux (Ishida et al, J Roy Soc Interface, 2019).
